Oil heated shower? Please HELP!
I have just bought a property that is oil central heated yet had no shower in the bathroom. As it is a new build i am assured it has very good insulation and shouldn't cost us drastically to heat.
However, i am currently debating what type of shower to invest in. Would a thermostatic mixer shower cost less on oil than an electric shower doing the same job?

Welcome to the forum.
Certainly any hot water heated by oil at current prices will cost a lot less than heating hot water with electricity.
Depending on the efficiency of your boiler, oil will have an effective cost of around 4p per kWh, against electricity at around 10p/kWh.
The determining factor for me would be the cost of installing each type. Plumbing/electrical etc.
If it were a case of a combined mixer shower/tap fitted to the bath, that would undoubtedly be cheaper.
Bear in mind that an electrician installing a more powerful electric shower will have to fit uprated cable and a 45 amp mcb (trip)0 -
Thanks for swift reply.
At the risk of sounding like Vito Corleon! "We have plumbers in the family that could do the installation for very low cost"
Would you still recommend oil?0 -
Yes - oil. I have both types and undoubtedly the flow is better from Central Heating.
Even with the most powerful electric shower the flow is not great in winter when the input temperature of the water is cold.0 -
I had a shower that involved oil that became rather heated. Hang on. Wrong web site. Wrong identity. To continue this discussion phone me on 098[transmission intercepted0
