WTC - processing times

I'm not sure if anyone will be able to give me the answer or even a rough guide, but anyway...

I start my new job on the 1st September and will be making a claim for working tax credits - does anyone know roughly how long it's taking them to process claims? I already get child tax credits. Also when should I phone them? The 1st September or the week before?

Thanks in advance x

I started work last Thursday. When I tried to tell the tax credit office on Wednesday, I was told to call back once I started! I was told it would take about 3 weeks to sort. I noticed my CTC payment changed slightly, so I assume they are processing my claim. I will post when I here something from them.

Good luck with your new job!

Thanks Karen. Hopefully it won't take them too long to process your claim, or mine.

I'll call on 1st September then - did think that would be the case.

Hope your new job is going well

Yes you call on or after the day you start work, it should't take long, depending on when you call and when you get your payments.
When I went back at Xmas time it was about a week or so.

:jWell I got WTC paid into my bank today, having informed them Thursday. Six days is pretty impressive. I guess the paperworks in the post. It's a relief to know it is sorted. Hopefully yours will be equally quick.

I am enjoying my new job. Having stayed at home for 5 years with my little one, it was a shock to the system. But I am feeling better about it now.

Wow, 6 to days is impressive but it isn't always that fast. I applied for it 7 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for a payment. They have introduced new procedures to spot fraudulant claims and whatever it is that they use to decide who's a potential fraudster is causing massive delays in payments. I had a response within 3 weeks to ask for more documentation, a whole laundry list was required to prove my existence, and nearly 4 weeks later my claim is in the pile of ones to do, but they might get around it to by the end of the week, that's if they don't require even more proof from me.
I thought I was organised, I knew I was splitting with my husband and we had arranged a date to move out so I got a blank form, filled it in and posted it 10 days before I moved out in the hope that it would all be sorted pretty quickly afterwards, oh well fingers crossed I'll get my money sorted soon!!!
