I`ve made some bread dough by hand using the dry yeast for handmaking bread but it really smells of alcohol.
I have put it in the oven but I`m not sure it will be safe to eat?

I think that'll be the yeast that's making it smell like that. I'm sure once it's cooked it'll be fine. I'm sure someone else will confirm too!!
Beer has yeast in too.Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

There won't be any alcohol in it, it's the yeast that's making it smell that way, but yeast is what you're smelling in beer, so it's the beer that smells of bread, not the other way around IYSWIM. Either way, when you bake it the heat will kill off the active part of the yeast, so it won't do you any harm. It'll probably be quite a well risen loaf if it smells particularly yeasty!2015 comp wins - £370.25

if the bread still smells yeasty when it.s cooked, try putting it back in the oven for a little while, it may be that the temperature was not quite high enough to kill the yeast.
Even if you don't want to use this loaf, then next time you bake, that's one learning curve you have climbed!!!!!!
Or you could cut down the amount of yeast you use. It is truly amazing how much dough an ounce of yeast will lift.
When I was first taught breadmaking we used 1 oz fresh yeast to a 3lb bag of flour. Took a while to rise, imho was better for it, and made 2 big loaves or 3 smaller ones. Dont give up, home made bread is a better staff of life than supermarket gunge.:j0
