Security freeze on credit reports

Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to but a block on your credit record with the 3 credit checking agencies as you can in many US states and it appears some countries in Europe? Idea is you tell the agencies to not approve any credit requests against your record until you release the freeze. Seems a fairly robust way to prevent identity theft. Thx.
