  • Things to do: walk round the walls, visit the Shambles, afternoon tea at Bettys, Viking Centre, Minster, National Railway Museum, the York 'Eye' - right next door to the railway museum and opened this week, walk along the river.
That lot should fill your weekend up nicely. Bettys and the Eye are definitely must do's.
Check out the York tourist centre for places to stay. There are loads of B&Bs which look ok from the outside. http://www.york-tourism.co.uk/

Stayed last Saturday at The Mount Royale Hotel about a ten minute walk from city centre. Lovely friendly hotel and a super restaurant next to Hotel called One 19.
  • There is a great B&B called the Apple House 5 mins walk from city centre - great for kids as they have a small play area and rabbits

We stayed at Queens Hotel last september . Good location by the river for all the tourist spots to be within walking distance . Also some decent restaurants close . They also have double rooms for £47.50 per night but dont expect a river view for that price!
I think Dora has covered the "things to do" but I would add the Castle Museum as well.

They have a travelodge fairly near to the centre of York. Would also suggest a visit to the Castle Museum and a river boat trip
