Toyota Avensis Air Con issues
Hi
I purchased a second hand (54 plate) Toyota Avensis in March 2008. Since purchase it has been in the garage no less than 6 times as the aircon wasn't cooling the air.
It has been re-gassed twice, had dye put through the system to detect leaks, had two lots of pipes replaced and on each occasion the aircon has failed again. On the last visit they said they could find nothing wrong but suspected it may be the compressor and quoted me £1028 to put it right - of course I am now out of warrenty.
I have argued that despite the previous work (which may have been necessary) the problem has not been resolved and perhaps the underlying problem was with the compressor. Toyota have had the car back in again and run a diagnostic and say it is definately the compressor.
As a 'goodwill' gesture they are offering to do the repair for £638 but I am still not convinced that I should be paying as they have never satisfactorily repaired the vehicle on the previous visits.
Would welcome any thoughts or results of similar experiences.
Thanks

ive got a slightly similar issue in that when its really warm outside the air con doesnt work properly it just blows warmish air. i just open the windows instead of using it. when its around 10 to 15 outside the cool air setting works perfectly, but anything about that and it just blows warm air.Debt free 3 years early :j

Wow! I thought they were ripping you off big time when they quoted £1028 for just fitting a compressor. (You can get a complete a/c system fitted to some cars for less than double that)
But it does appear that the retail price of the compressor alone is £900 for the Toyota Avensis. I suppose that's the price you pay for buying Japanese."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Any chance you could get a compressor at a car breakers or similar?0

Sunroofs make more sense in a used car. UK has been suckered into the fashion of having aircon in each & every car. Wonder if, like hemlines, the fashion will swing back to tilt sunroofs for pretty good ventilation?0

In March 2008 It wouldnt have been manufacturer warranty. Either a dealer one or warranty company.
Its unlikely this sort of repair would be covered anyway.
If you want it fixed pay it if you dont dont
Dont think you have much legal right to get it fixed though unless your warranty covered it and you can prove that was the problem within the warranty period0 -
If they repaired it under warranty last year, but haven't fixed the fault, you should have a possible case for a warranty claim as a continueing fault. You need to speak to trading standards for corrrect advice, and what to do now.0
