Power cut compensation

One night's sleep was totally messed up since our alarm and that of next door were sounding over a two hour period between 2am and 4am, and I had no idea how to deactivate our's without a ladder! And that's just the start of the incovenience we experienced...
I cant agree more - the Tuesday night was awful, i appreciate dartford people were left without power for the entire time so we should be grateful for the 3 hour time slots that we did get, but a 3am -6am slot is pointless, yes it may have kept my milk cool in the fridge, (freezer contents i had moved to my in laws on the Monday) - it certainly didnt save the poor chap in Brook Street's tropical fish (story in this weeks newsshopper)...... i went to my hairdressers this week in Crayford, they have tropical fish, the tank was half empty, died in the power cut! ..... back to the 3am time slot, my whole house lit up like a christmas tree, we went to bed with our curtains open, just so we could see to get into bed by the moonlight (how crazy does that sound), alarms were going crazy, so up i got, done 2 loads of washing and went back to bed to wake at 7am to realise the power was still on, thought could this be the end, ie problem resolved, but no the power went off at 9am for 6 hours (not what EDF's web site stated .
We had a continued period of 20 hours without power, from the monday lunchtime to tuesday morning ...... lets wait and see if i get a letter from EDF.
Amberviolet, dont know what to suggest, i thought the 18 hour timescale was for the £50 compensation, but you say the letter is suggesting its for a 24 hour off period..... will wait for our letter and let you know what it says .0 -

I am disappointed at the pathetic amount they are offering but feel that its better than nothing and not sure even complaining we would get anymore. Does anyone feel it is worth taking further or just accept what happened?
My friends complained to their MP, Dr someone. The MP had already put in a newsletter that he had spoken to the same EDF person who wrote the letter with the £50 only offer. The MP lost power to his home and office too.
Then they followed the OFGEM complaints proceedure here
http://www.ofgem.gov.uk/CustomPages/Pages/Contactus.aspx
which was to complain to EDF Tel: 0800 0284587 and got the persons name who they spoke to/date/time.
and then filled in a complaint form against EDF here
https://secure.consumerdirect.gov.uk/complaint_energy.aspxRENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

What is making me really cross and I have written to Robert Lane (Director of Net Work Operations at EDF Energy Networks) to tell him what I think about this fiasco is that you have to claim you £50.00 :eek::eek:.
I wonder how many won't bother !! On 2008 pre-tax profits of £252m they should be compensating all their customers.:mad::mad: who were affected.
