Bank Transfer to Halifax please help!!

Hi all,

I bank with Alliance & Leicester, I transferred some money on Friday (18th July) evening to a Halifax account. The account number was 8 digits long and had a 0 at the beginning.

I put the payee details into my online banking and sent the money, it was over £250 so I'm guessing it used BACS and not faster payments as A&L have a limit.

The money has not yet reached the recipient, when can I expect it to arrive? I've read that saturday and sunday do not count as working days so i'm guessing Wednesday?

Also i've only just noticed but when the transfer went through it missed out the first zero in the account no, so it sent it to a 7 digit account number with correct sort code etc. Does this mean my money won't get there??

Just a little worried now, can anyone put my mind at rest?

BACS can take up to 4 working days, so if you initiated payment on Friday, it may not reach its destination until Wednesday. If it's not arrived by then, try giving A&L a ring.

Ok thanks ill wait and see if it shows up tommorow, I guess even with the missed 0 at the beginning the account no & sort code are correct so it shouldnt go into someone elses account!

I did a BACS transfer from my LTSB account on Thursday and it appeared in two different banks today (Tuesday), so I would expect yours to appear tomorrow.

Hi all,

Well ive checked with the recepient and he is saying he has not recieved it today (Wednesday), he apparently phoned up Halifax and they advised him that it will be tommorow because I paid friday night so it would get entered until monday and then 4 days? Does this sound correct or is he lying?

I just transferred £250 form my A&L to Halifax. My Halifax a/c no. begins with 000 and all three digits were missing when I made the transfer meaning my HX account no. was only 5 digits long!

I have previously transferred from A&L to HX before and it arrived ok with the missing zeros. I think the A&L system ignores all the leading zeros for some reason.

BACS takes three working days however some banks hold the funds for a day before sending it through. So A&L may hold it all day Monday, send it Tuesday, it gets processed Wednesday and arrives in the Halifax account on Thursday. I'm assuming the money is there safe and sound seeing the OP has updated the thread since last Wednesday. Patience is a virtue.
