Half Price Cigarettes At Sainsburys

I was in the petrol station if sainsburys in swansea last night when i happened to notice that they had Marlboro medium cigarettes at half price.
10 pack was £1.31
20 pack was £2.51
Not sure if this was a national thing, but they seemed to have plenty in this one.

Well its a new pack so maybe it is the marlboro gold. But its def not the marlboro lights
And it was displayed as "SALE PRICE"0 -
When I was at uni, Tescos on the Cowley Rd in Oxford used to sell Lucky Strikes for £2.50/pack 20 whilst everything else was £4.50ish. Couldn't work it out.0

Duty on cigarettes is 22% of the rrp + 9.68p per cigarette. So for a £2.51 pack of 20 it works out at £2.49.
Unless Marlboro are selling them for under 2p per pack they're on a loser!
EDIT: No, it's 22% of the rrp, not the selling price! So it's £3.04 duty. I expect there's VAT in there too.Can I help?0 -

Very surprised at this as cigs are not allowed to be discounted, hence the fact you don't get coupons etc these days.0

Marlboro Medium were an ill-fated attempt to bridge the gap between the full strength marlboro red, and the "light" marlboro lights. Nobody bought them, and i presume Sainsburys are trying to get rid of them after them haven been withdrawn from the tobacco companies portfolio...The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.
