in Credit cards
Hi all
I am trying to get a 0% credit card. Previously had a default with Abbey card which I think was MBNA owned, now with a collector and £200 to pay off. I have a Vanquis card and instead of paying 39% interest hope to get a cheaper card if not 0%. BT are offering 0% on their card with reduction on Bt phone bill when using the card. I don't know whether I can get this, but it isn't worth me applying if the previous Abbey debt will affect my application. As it is not now with Abbey or MBNA as it has been passed on to a collector, does anyone know whether this would this affect my application? I don't want to make an application which is a non-starter then have it on my file, although I don't have any credit applications on my file for over a year. I am hoping I can get something better than a Vanquis card as I don't pay this off every month (current balance £500 so I try and pay off large sums each month and keep reducing it, though I do sometimes need to use it for anything unexpected, I am slowly getting the balance down and hope to owe nothing in 12 months' time), but why pay any interest at all if I can do better and pay none?! My credit file shows a poor rating with one agency and good with another, as I had one CCJ five years ago (repaid).

If you actually have a default/CCJ on your file then the chance of getting a CC are almost nil.0

One more year and your CCJ will drop off - I wouldn't apply for a 0% card until then, and make sure that your payment history is good for the coming year.
You'll have much more chance of success then.0
