Replace Integrated Washing Machine with Non Integrated Washing Machine

Hi,

Me and my girlfriend have just bought a house which has an integrated washing machine but the problem is we only bought a new £500 Hotpoint washing machine a few months ago. Is it possible to get rid of the integrated one and put a normal one there if the units are modified or is it not possible normally without having to redesign all the units?

Thanks,
Dan

The integrated machines dont go in units, they just stand on the floor with a cabinet door screwed to the front. They are usually the same width as stand alone machines (60cms) so you should be able to take out the integrated one and replace with your existing one.

    Ditto ...

    .
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

The only problem could be the flooring. There is usually a plinth (kick board) under all the units and this usually continues over the space which houses the washing machine.

You will need to cut this either side, and ideally fit returns to the sides of the adjacent units. The problem arises if the flooring does not continue under the plinth , or worse, if it is ceramic tiles and the plinth is "tiled in".

In the latter case it can be tricky to get the integrated machine out, and once done, you will need to fill in the space under the machine with matching tiles.

If it is vinyl and stops at the plinth you will need to put in a matching patch, the join may be covered by the machine.

The further the flooring goes under/behind the plinth the better.

I would also think it is likely that an integrated machine might be shorter back to front (since it has to fit behind the door), so your regular machine might stick out a little.
