Hi Guys,
Hoping someone can help me out here! I have been told by my leting agent's electrician the following
"Carried out electrical inspection ,could not carry out full inspection due to earth to main earthing supply being broken, needs replacing also new shower pull cord"
I have been quotred by them £140 plus vat
Now having no clue what the above involves or means I would like to know if this seems about right?
Thanks
Sal

Your electrical system should be bonded (earthed if you want) to the DNOs (your electricity supplier) main earth. Apart from it being dangerous if it isn't it sounds that he has been carrying out a Periodic Inspection Report for the landlord. If that bonding isn't present or is not to standard he can't carry out all the tests that he needs to do to complete the report.
Showe pull cord seems to be an observation rather than anything else as that won't actually affect the tests - is it frayed?
£ 140 sounds about right I'm afraid because once he has done it he neeeds to test again that element of the work he has done and issue the appropriate certification for that bit of work.
He can then go back and finish the tests the landlord is paying for.
The moot point is whether the fault he has identified is your responsibility to fix or your landlords.
