Money taken from my account without my permission. Can they do this?

Hi there, I have not paid last months Lloyds credit card and today they have took a payment from my LloydsTSB bank account without my permission and this is gonna cause a cheque I wrote to 'bounce'. They took it by PAY. Can they do this?

Unfortunately they can do it, yes. It will be in their Terms and Conditions and is called the "right to offset".

It is advised on this forum to ensure that any debts that you may have problems with are at banks completely separate to those with whom you may have positive balances. That is for this precise reason.

I suggest you open an account which is nothing to do with Lloyds Banking Group (remembering that this includes HBOS now) and keep your funds where they cannot get their hands on them.

They can do this, there was an article written by Martin Lewis in the News of the World on Sunday explaining it all.
