I was in that situation several years ago. My son, who qualified for high rate mobility, went to residential school, so we no longer qualified for a car from mobility. I was unable to claim any no claims discount on my new car, and had to build up a discount from scratch again.

Thats been my fear as have full no claims bonus and the reason I havent gone for a motability car as always in the hope my health may improve to an extent I dont qualify for DLA at some point in the future.

My brother hit this problem when he bought his adapted car.

However the Motability Insurers, Royal and Sun Alliance Motability gave him a letter confirming that he had 3 years without accidents, which some insurers accepted for a No claims discount.

The alternative of course is, in your first year insure with Royal and Sun Alliance who can see your record and will transfer across years without claims as a NCB if you ask them. This also applies to their subsidary companies as well.

That was my problem with motobility, if I'd realised before getting the car that I'd lose my no claims then I'd have thought twice about getting one. Although I'm having to make a claim now anyway because of the car being vandalised, so I'm completely stuck if my next DLA claim doesn't go through.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

thank you for posting advice , I think it would be best if she contacted royal s/a and also gave proof of prior ncd.
  • If the motability car has been returned, you can ring Royal Sun Alliance and they will issue you with a letter to use as No Claims Bonus (if you are entitled to a no claims bonus), and some insurers will use this as proof you are entitled to a no claims discount. They also have an arrangement with More Than "As a benefit of the Motability Scheme, a special arrangement has been made with our associate company MORE TH>N for hirers and drivers leaving the scheme. Subject to you meeting MORE TH>Ns usual acceptance rules, they will treat your claim free driving record as earned "No Claim Discount" and provide a quote on this basis."
