This is a very confusing situation.
You say he is self-employed, so who has told him there is no work available? Can you explain his situation please?
If you're self employed, you work "for yourself".
The self-employed cannot be made redundant as redundancy is a term which means that an employer is terminating an employee's contract of employment.
It's almost certain that your cancellation insurance will not cover anyone self employed - and redundancy doesn't apply.
If he's self employed, can he not just find others to do work for?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0
