best way to get cheap holiday to slovenia?

Hiya,
my boyfriend and I have been looking to go to slovenia, for a week or so, have looked at thompsons lake and moutains packages and the cheapest I could find was £409 in a hotel in Lake Bled inc. flights (only B&B). did like the idea of possibly renting a studio/apartments.

Anyone know if it would work out cheaper to organise hotel and flights seperately? I'm not even sure which airlines fly there!

I'm also presuming we will need to rent a car for the week- can anyone whose been there agree with thi?

Many thanks in advance!

We spent a couple of days in Lake Bled last year and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, it is stunning . We stayed at Hotel Golf which has a Wellness Centre , basically made up of a most amazing swimming pool, various saunas and a treatment centre available for massages , beauty stuff et al . I have looked at the website for Hotel Golf and they have a few special offers worth investigating. The airlines that fly in to Llubjana (sp?) are Wizz and Easy jet. I cant say that we considered an apartment , however when we were exploring , we did see an awful lot of properties which were available for rent , so it may work out cheaper and then you pay for any trips to the Wellmess Centre , if that is your thing.....it is worth it. The cakes in the Park Hotel Cafe (open to all) are yummy and we found the people to be very friendly . I have to say we prefer to do independent travel , and for this trip we had organised carhire from the Airport (Budget- cheap as chips rental for a Ford Ka) so that we could adventure further afield . Enjoy Slovenia , it is amazing . HTH

Thanks Lady E., can I ask what sort of prices I should expect to pay for flights and car hire? I was thinking of leaving late august (23-30th) and have so far found flight of £149 (+ taxes) and car hire for £140. I am flexible on dates- just trying to determine when the cheapest time to go would be between now and september!

    Thanks again : )

We went last February so I think that was out of "high"season,I think the flights were about £120, HOWEVER I have been taking a look at https://www.wizzair.com who fly from Luton and they have some very competitive prices , gives Stelios a run for his money , but they only fly on certain days. Look at argusrentals.com as well as Budget for car hire. HTH x

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
You can also fly Ryanair to Graz (Austria), take a bus from the airport to the bus station and then get a bus to Ljubljana and other places. I did this route going down to Zagreb and beyond, it's much cheaper but obviously more time consuming.

hotel jadran may 27 for 7 days (lake bled)from gatwick £188 available now on the thomson site!!
  • Thanks wizzkid, I also found a really good deal on lovely self catering apartments in Bled for 329 EUR for a week for two- pretty cheap as I generally prefer to eat out or but the loocal produce and try to cook something authentic! Have found really cheap flights on wizzair and went on the avis thread and have found a cheap one week hire deal for 88 pounds- although I have slight reservations about the code and the likelyhood of being turned away!
