I would write to National Express. Customer Services of most transport providers inculding coaches, buses and trains will at least send you a travel voucher if problems are caused especially if you haven't complained before. Just make out your loyal customer and never had any problems before from their excellent service and your family were amazed by having to pay 2.50 surcharge to get the ticket. That should do the job.

I personally think the complaint is more about National Express offering a collection point on their website that has been closed for over a year and on top of that, a representative of theirs giving opening times and location of this place that has been closed for over a year plus the inconvenience incurred by GreyPilgrim - rather than having to pay £2.50.
GP has already done a letter and as he says he kept it nice and factual and unemotional, he may stand a good change of seeing a result.

It's actually nice (?) to see a vent on here that you can actually empathise with.

No reply from National Express yet - not even an acknolwedgement that the complaint has been received. Awesome service eh?

I also seem to have encountered the most rude and unfriendly co-driver too. On the day I travelled I handed the driver my ticket, and then went over to put my bags (I had a large rucksack and a small backpack). The co-driver / steward chap asked where I was going (he actually grunted 'wurr ya gannin?') and I replied 'Sunderland'.

Took my rucksack, threw it to the back of the luggage compartment, and then I held up my smaller backpack and said "Is it ok if I take this onto the coach as it's got water and stuff in". He just shrugged and said "dee what ya like mate".

    !!!!!!?

"Dee What Ya Like Mate". No eye contact, nothing. Just said it and walked past me.

National Express drivers can be nasty and surly. I once had one who wouldn't move his stuff from the front seats (the ones right behind him) so I could sit there. I get travel sick for some reason if I'm nearer the back; think it's something to do with having a view to concentrate on or something...

Very few National Express coaches are actually National Express coaches. Most are run by contractors usually local coach companies. There are suppose to be service standards etc... but you will find that some drivers are great and some awful. Usually depending on the company employing them.
