I would say that this Acer laptop at Comet looks good.

If my laptop packed up today it's the one I would go for though It needs a RAM upgrade to 512mb. But then I wouldn't be looking to Comet for support and if you need support then perhaps it's not the best.

Dell surprise surprise have put their prices up again so the "special offers" aren't that special after all.
ebuyer have a 60GB hdd Toshy with 512 RAM for about 450 pounds (I think), not sure what the warranty is like there??
Does anyone know about HP's AMD laptops - they are a bit older now, probably be discontinued soon and a bit pricey considering you can get core duo for 100 pounds more but thought they looked ok, good screen, keyboard, spec and maybe quieter with that processor? Plus John Lewis has them so you can at least get customer support

Have been warned off Acer by yet another person yesterday! I am also very suspicious of reviews as they do def correspond to the ads in the mags. I think they should give us at MSE laptops to try out for a couple of weeks!!
