UCAS results and student finance

Options
hey,

the first question i have isn't particularly moneysaving but i couldn't find any info about it and wondered if current uni students could answer it. i met the conditions of my offer over a month ago but haven't as yet seen ucas update my results - does anyone know how and when this gets done? i'm anxious to confirm my place so i can start sorting out a student bank account.

secondly, despite student finance emailing me warning me of an impending deadline several weeks ago and me getting it sorted before the deadline, i haven't heard anything from them. my mum has had to provide income details so i get assessed for the maintenance grant. again do any current students know when this gets done and when do student loans/grants usually get paid in?

i'm just about to put a deposit down on a house and start paying rent in september so it would be good to know a rough timespan of payments and how much you get. i can't seem to find any concrete information anywhere!

thanks in advance :)

I don't know when UCAS updates your results online, I think it may depend on what the qualifications are. For instance I think for A-levels UCAS receives the grades from the exam boards and informs the universities a few days before the official release. That would explain why students can confirm whether or not they've got a place on the day they get their results.
However for some qualifications this isn't an automatic process and the student has to inform the university directly. For example, one of my offers included an OU certificate. This wasn't a standard qualification so UCAS didn't recieve the results, I had to tell the university myself.

    Go HERE
If the qualification you needed to satisfy your offer is not in this list you need to contact your university directly

Student Finance, once you've recieved a notification letter and signed and returned the contract, you will get a schedule of payments about 3 weeks before the start of term. Payments are usually 3 times a year - the first week of term (September), January and March

I emailed a copy of my certificate to the admissions department and they emailed back saying they were changing my offer to unconditional and would infor UCAS. This was Monday it has been updated today. You may be able to do the same :)

thanks, i think i'll try that.

i'm not very trusting of ucas as they messed up quite a few of my classmates applications!

I met the conditions for my offer quite a while ago, sent the uni the info a month ago and my UCAS still hasn't been updated. I'm not worried though, I have a certificate of acceptance from the uni, so hopefully that should help if there are any problems. :)

I've found student finance are quite good if you phone the support line. Its also worth keeping everything they send you, as you may have to change what account your money is paid into. I know its a condition on a lot of student accounts that you have your loan money paid into it.

  • I'm in quite the opposite position haha, UCAS have updated my results and sent me my AS12 letter confirming my place but I haven't got anything from my University - but I'm not too worried about that as I sent my results to them and they updated UCAS so it must be fine!

i contacted my uni and they advised me to post my results to them, so i've done that today. should all be sorted soon hopefully :)

i got a letter from student finance too, but they haven't mentioned the additional support. so i'm assuming that's processed seperately, as we had to send it by post rather than do it online.

i feel like writing to ucas and asking what exactly i paid them £15 for?! they're almost useless!
