There's more about the drill on this page: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-VPX1212X-Li-Ion-14-4-Volt/dp/B000UME3FG/ref=combo_pack_i_1

Looks like this range is end of life - hence the low clearance price. Ignore the fact its twin battery, that's a gimmick, seeing as its two 7V batteries. If you can get a drill with a spare, then you're on to a winner. There's nothing worse than the battery running out and having to wait an hour or so for it to charge again in order to finish the job.

    Thanks for that link.
I think the fact that it can hold charge for a year says a lot. As I wont use it that often, holding its charge is quite a good feature for me.
I know the two battery thing is a gimmick. Not sure how much spares cost.
Ah, I just read some more reviews, low capacity batteries, 5 hour charge time. Might give this one a miss, especially as the range had been discontinued. Thanks for the pointer.

I should add that my dad is in the building trade and has a heap of cordless drills, that should I need anything more hefty, he would come and assist. This will only be for small jobs, and probably very little actual drilling. I did ask him if he would give me one of his, but he kindly declined. He is strangely attached to ALL his tools! :D
I've heard that tradesman are often like that. :p

I have just bought an AEG 18v drill from B&Q. It has two large batteries and a fast charger. It cost £59.99. I have just used it to build a large deck area, which was all screwed construction. It performed brilliantly. Do not even consider getting a drill that has not got a spare battery and a fast charger. I was going to replace the batteries in my 18v Bosch Drill, but the cheapest that I could source them was £119.00 so I bought the new drill. The new batteries are alsoabout 40 % more powerful than those in my old drill.

    Do you have a link?

Hi traveller 1981. If you look here there is a reference to it. It is an AEG bsb 18 stx-r drill. http://www.bargainspy.co.uk/node/127936 If you Google the drill type, you should come up with other links. I came across it quite by chance in my local B&Q. I was in there specifically to buy a raplacement for my old 18v Bosch drill. It seemed ridiculously cheap and was just what I was looking for. Only draw back that I have found so far, is that it is on the heavy side. I think that I saw this drill on ebay, so worth a look there.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

I bought a Ryobi 18v 4 piece set - drill, jigsaw, sander and spare battery - was £79.99 on offer a month or so a go. It is all very good. The drill can get into the rock solid walls (brick)

I couldn't see it on screwfix just now but keep an eye out as i have to say i am impressed with the kit for such little money !
  • Thanks for the info. Will keep my eyes peeled.

(Still not getting alerts when people reply to this thread. Seems very hit and miss!)
