My floppy disk drive doesn't work.
When I put in a floppy it tells me to put in a disk, when I have already.
Any ideas what I can do?
Also my cd's no longer autostart. What do you think I have done wrong and what can I do to remedy both of these problems.
Thanks in advance to all of you computer aces out there.

For your CD drive,go into 'my computer' and right click on your drive, click properties and choose the tab 'Autoplay' then tick the option that you want.
For your floppy drive,it may be the cable has come away from the back of the drive, you should check this first (turn off and unplug your pc first. If the cables are both connected and the flat cable going to the motherboard is properly plugged in at the motherboard end aswell as into the back of your drive, it might be you need a new floppy drive. desktop/laptop? which model? if it really is dead, you can buy a new one for about a £5 ish upwards.

I am technically illitterate.
Is ther anything I can find to give instructions on how to do what you have suggested.
I have never taken the back off anything so don't know how.
I have tried what was advised for the cd drive but that makes no difference.

to check if your cables are plugged in,turn the pc off and unplug the plug from the wall. Unscrew the case (4 screws in the back corners) and slide off the cover(might be left side, right side or whole cover depending on your case. Look where the floppy drive is at the front of the pc and find the back of it.It should have a skinny little power wire going to it and a flat wide wire too.If they are plugged in securely then follow the flat wide wire back to the motherboard with your eyes and see if that end is plugged in securely. You could check the cd drive too same sort of arrangement but the wide wire goes to a different part of the motherboard. If any of the wires have come away, push them back in their sockets.put the case back on and screw in screws. A book on building pcs from your library will help and have pictures if your not sure .0
