Virgin Credit Card Nightmare - Help please ???

Okay will try and keep this short and to the point......

Hubby applied for a Virgin Credit Card for balance transfer, card agreed, terms & conditions signed, direct debt form completed and returned.

Direct debt not set up, therefore incurred late charges, paid via standing order as soon as this was realised, and Hubby wrote them a letter explaining this and requested that the charges, interest etc was refunded, and as Hubby is away alot he gave them authorisation for them to discuss the account with me. A new Direct Debt form was sent in post and no other communuication from Virgin/MBNA in writing.

Checked Bank account again and DD still not set up called again at the weekend unable to speak to a human.

Spoke to them today as Hubby is on holiday and at home, explained the situation and that we was doing everything we can from this side to sort the mess out that had been created from the DD not being set up, person on other end of phone not interested and said it was our fault even though Hubby has given them authorisation for them to talk to me re the account and they still refused to. We couldnt do anymore.......

We are now stuck with over 200 of charges where do we stand and can we claim them back?

Help?????

Why haven't you been paying online with a debit card payment while this mess is sorted? I can understand falling for 1 missed payment and £12 but i am shocked you have run up £200+

I have a Virgin card and always pay online and never a problem

I have Thank you, but because the Direct Debt form was returned and they wont speak to me and my husband is overseas Mon-Fri how can I tell them the DD isnt set up when they wont talk to me.

Sending back 2 direct debt forms should have been enough for them to be able to set it up in the first place as well.......

Helpful advice would be appreciated, not scarasum had that from MBNA thanks!!!!

I know this Is not what you want to hear…. BUT… It’s your OHs responsibility to make the payments.

The Direct Debit failure could be the fault of your OHs current account rather than the fault of Virgin.

You guys should have checked that payments were being made on time.

Did you get a letter from the current account saying that the direct debit had been set up?

sPIKECCUS-Do you or hubby have access to the credit card online? if so you can set up a direct debit online. Please continue to make the minimum payments untill the DD is set up otherwise you will continue to incur charges and they will also withdraw any promotional offers.I would suggest your husband communicates to them in writing and keep copies of the letter. You will have to explain the circumstances but will have to make the minimum repayments untill the matter is sorted.

I think it's more a suggestion that until your husband returns, why don't you simply pay once a month via debit card to ensure you don't incur any more costs for late payment (as it's suggested you haven't done this). Incidently, my Amex allow me to alter DD information online; can you do this? Or can you even log on and check what payment details you have set up, and next time your bill arrives, log on, check and if necessary make a debit card paymnet.

However, in relation to reclaiming it back, all I can suggest is your husband tries dealing with the issue once the DD is set up and working.

Virgin has excellent online services. If he registers his details on the website, you can monitor his account and pay bills faster by debit card, should this become necessary. He can also set up a DD online.

From feedback here, Virgin will normally reinstate your special rate, provided that it's a "first offence" and you ask nicely. This lender may not refund the charges he's incurred, but it's worth a try.

If he rings Virgin Card Services on 01244 673700, he'll avoid the perishing 0870 numbers ;)

I think the 200-plus will include interest as well - as the payment has been missed (twice), then the interest-free rate will have been removed (twice and once reinstated).

It could be either party's fault that the DD is not active, I ported to Orange recently, and they completely failed to set up my DD and had the cheek to suggest that I somehow went rhrough the application without entering the data anywhere as it wasn't on their system. I informed them it was not possible to do so and their system was patently rubbish if it loses DD details.

We wrote them a letter on the 19th June 09 and the only way they acknowledged it was by sending a DD form, none of the concerns were dealt with!

    Yes thats right

I dont think I have made it clear but the card is in my husbands name, therefore Virgin wont talk to me, allow me to set up DD as its not my account. I was making the DD payment online and would have thought that a DD would have been set up after 2 signed forms were returned ..... Husband is away Mon-Fri overseas.....hence why I have been trying to sort it all out:confused:

I thought you said in your OP that your husband is on holiday and at home today.

If so, I'd call back and, with as much patience as you can muster, explain the situation.

Regardless of whose fault it is, you're more likely to get the desired result, if you disarm 'em with charm ;)
