Cheap travel to Nottingham?

I am trying to find cheap train travel to Nottingham on 29th Aug. I can't find anything cheaper than £70 each return. It would be to travel down on am of 29th and return after lunch on 30th.

Can be done for £21.80 per person each way using Advance Singles.

I have spent the last 2 hours looking for bargain train fares for 1 adult and 1 child (I have a family railcard) - I am wanting to travel from Stevenage to Portsmouth for the day on thursday 23rd July - leaving about 1pm ish and returning (leaving portsmouth) around 10.30pm...
the best I have is £32.30 - can anyone beat this - am still searching - but there are loads of people better than me at this... :-)

Thanks Keith - I think that I knew that deep down - but was double checking... now on a mission to get to doncaster as cheaply as possibly on 1st Sept... thank you though..

Finally - I try the two singles thing and its a bargain - single from Stevenage to Doncaster for £9.30 and a ticket for me and my two sons with a F&F R/C back again for £9.85!!!

That is cheaper than the fuel!!! I am VERY VERY happy....
