    You'd do a lot worse than a Civic. I sold one for £900 that had cost me a set of tyres and basic servicing over the previous 2 years.

    Not convinced, most of them links relate to Nissan Almera's that were made since Renault got involved with them, find a Nissan Primera pre- year 2000, totally bullet proof.

    Same applies to the older shape Micra's.

    As much as people bash them...id suggest a Rover.

    Extremely cheap now because MG/Rover have gone bust, but parts still readily available through XPart (MG/Rover Dealers). Parts are pretty cheap too.

    If your going for a petrol then it'll be a k-series engine you get, these come in 1.1, 1.4, 1.6, and 1.8 forms. All good engines with extremely good power/weight/displacement ratios. People often slag them for the head gasket problems SOME of the engines face. This usually occurs around the 50,000 mile mark due to the original gasket not being of the best design. Check the service history of the car to see if the head gasket has been replaced - if it has ensure that it was replaced with a multi-layered gasket, also known as the landrover gasket.

    All the k series engines return approx 40mpg, and the 1.1 and 1.4 models are cheap to ensure providing the car is a Rover, I had the 1.4 in the MG ZR and it was a fair bit more expensive. If insurance isnt really a big worry (if your not a new driver etc) then one of the bigger engines like the 1.6, 1.8, or 1.8VVC might be a better option. The 1.8 VVC found in the ZR 160 or Rover BRM / VI is the most economical of the bigger engines fuel wise even though its the most powerful at 147/157 bhp depending on whether you buy MG or Rover.

    Ive never had any of the diesel Rovers. Their engines are said to be of an older design an arent quite as economical as most newer diesel engines. But they last a good while and return roughly 50mpg if i remember rightly.

    Dont let people shun you off rovers stereotypically - I currently have 4 MG/Rovers and found them all to be brilliant. The newest is an MG ZR 160 with 40k miles, and the oldest is a 91 Rover Mini with 50k miles, and ive also got a Rover 216 SLI with 130,000 miles...it never misses a beat.

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    But not cheap enough! Unreliable, badly designed, shabbily built, ancient technology, and driven by the over-75s. As if this weren't enough, you will be laughed at, abused and ridiculed by every other motorist, even if they are in a Proton!:D

    Buy a proper car, don't waste your £100 on a Rover.;)
