Passport query

How long does it normally take to get your passport after application?

I might be moving in the next few weeks and I want to be sure where it is sent to.

Isn't there a passport office in Newcastle? I'll actually be in that area in the next few days. Is it possible to get a passport issued any quicker by calling in there? If so what would I need to take with me?

  • The passport office is in Durham. And it can take anything from 2-10 weeks depending on the time of year. You can get a 'fastrack' one which can be done in 24hrs but you pay a premium for it.

Why not go to the official site?

    Hello ericpode

If you have a look at this earlier thread Current passport times, you see from post #19 that it took one week for my passport to be processed in February.

I can't comment on the time it takes right now (perhaps someone will) but all I would suggest is.........the later you leave it, the longer it will take to process. The passport office is always busiest in the summer months, so don't delay.;)

    Happy holidays

    Thanks both.

    I'll give them a call.

Durham would be fine - it's not to far away from Ncle. I doubt I'll be able to get an appointment at such short notice though.

(Just leaving for the journey up the M1, and hoping there are minimal hold ups!)

why dont you just do it by post - then have your post re-directed for a month (which is sensible to do anyway) - this is probably cheaper than getting it done over the counter as this costs fortunes these days.

If it's a passport renewal then these tend to be quicker. I did mine last November, posting it on Monday and received the new one one Friday. Do it now before the summer rush kicks in.
