Anyone been to Kefalonia?

We're staying at the San Giorgio apartments. Want to try and stay away from the touristy scene but would like to either rent a boat for a day or go on a good boat trip.
I think it's possible to get a ferry from Poros to Ithaka which is something I'd like to do and of course snorkeling is high on my list of things to do...did you see many fish?
Did you find eating out expensive?
Looking at San Giorgio apartments - what were they like?

Have you checked to see if there are any reviews of those apartments on Tripadvisor?0

I've looked at loads of reviews - San Giorgio and others. Also looking at Maldives as possible. I just wondered if first78 had any feedback.
Thsi will be our first holiday without the 'kids' (all three at 25, 20 and 17 came to the USA last year). Great to go out of season - looking at beginning of June. Can't decide where to go..................Don't let them grind you down; fight for your rights0 -
I'd say considering Kefalonia and Maldives is like comparing apples and elephants! :cool:0

Appreciate that they are totally different in many ways including cost. Weighing up all options.Don't let them grind you down; fight for your rights0

Hi
I have been to both Maldives and Kefalonia. Maldives is totally chilled out, take your shoes off at arrival and put them back on when you leave kind of holiday. Snorkelling is amazing and it can be very expensive depending on what board you choose. Remember 3-4 star is more like 5 star elsewhere, quite plush, but if you want to explore a bit more maybe Kefalonia would suit you better. I stayed north of Kefalonia a short distance from Fiskardo. We Rented a villa and it was bliss to jump in the car and find a local taverna for lunch. We found it quite expensive though in the north compared to the more tourist areas in the south.
Both are amazing but I would probably choose maldives if I went back to one of the holidays as I am more of a chill on the beach with a book person, I like to relax on holiday!
Hope this helps0
