Advice needed please!

Sold a piece of furniture on Ebay (parents moving house so trying to help get rid of furniture that won't fit). Set, as usual, uk auction only and listing clearly states collection no later 20 July due house move.

The winning bidder has paid, using paypal, she is in Australia! Paypal have charged extra for this. How, if my auction is set not to accept overseas bidders, can this happen? This has happened to me twice now and the helpline is a complete waste of time.

The buyer has no intention of collection this week and we are now faced with a huge sideboard we cannot store. It looks like the transaction will not go ahead so I will have to refund the buyer. Do I lose the hefty paypal fee I was charged or do I get it back if I refund?

Any help appreciated.

Did you set your seller preferences to UK only? or just state it in your listing? If it was only stated in your listing anyone can bid on it. Link is HERE

If you refund the buyer you will get the fees back. You also need to ask them to do a mutual cancellation through ebay so you also get you FVF back.

Why have paypal charged you extra for receiving payment from Australia?

Hi, thanks for replying, I followed your link and the buyer requirements is indeed set to block countries to which I don't post. This is the second time this has happened to me and I wonder if there is some sort of 'scam' going on where a buyer can circumnavigate these blocks.

How have you set up buyers requirements?

The only applicable option I am aware if is to block bids from ebayers registered in countries to which you don't ship. As you don't ship anywhere, (collection only) ebay probably allows bids from all.

Edit: just read your earlier response. (post #4) I think this is the cause of your problems.
