BMI Baby Ticket refund

My missus and her family were due to Fly to America at the end of the month, flights were booked at a cost of £330 each, the tickets had no limitations on them.
Anyway my missus's Dad has been taken ill into Hospital and will now not be able to fly due to an infection in his replacement knee operation, so he could be very vulnerable to DVT.
She is now staying at home with her dad for when he comes out of Hospital she can look after him, but we have rang the airline and they said they can only refund the Tax on the 2 Tickets and we must return the tickets by recorded Delivery to them so they can sell them again, so basically they have taken about £400 of the £660 and kept it they will then go and re sell the tickets for probably more money due to the flight being only 3 weeks away.
What i need to know is if we have a case to try and get more money back and if there is a place ie Banking ombudsman if you have a banking complaint that we cn contact to try and plead our case.
thanks Guys, I'm sure one of you out there has some answers for me

Do you have Travel insurance cover that may help in their predicament?
Have you look at the T&C's of the tickets?
Did you book through an agent or the airline direct?
At that price they're probably non-refundable.
Can you alter the flight dates to say next year and use them then?
Probably be a cost but not £400!
Sell them on Ebay if you can change the names of the passengers and or dates.0 -

Sorry, but the airline is right in this instance. It is really something to be dealt with by travel insurance.
However, sometimes the airline can be a bit sympathtic, but only on rare occasions. Write into the airline, explaining the situation. Make sure it is NOT a letter of complaint (the t&c's will be clear on the point about not being able to fly). See what happens."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Probably just BMI then!LesD wrote:Didn't know bmibaby flew to America? This space has been intentionally left blank0
