Switching Gas/Electric - how long does it take?
I'm tied into a 12 month contract with Scottish Power, which finishes at the end of August - if I was to sign up with someone else now, how long will it take to transfer over?
Would I be able to advise my next supplier to hold off switching until the end of August?
I want to sign up to E.ON to get the £70 Quidco cashback, but it finishes in a few days...

Hi redwin11 :hello:
As you say you are in 12 month contract with Scottish Power, check your T&C's to see what the penalty is for leaving.
Changing supplier takes around 4-6 weeks, but if you sign up via Quidco whilst the cash back offer is still on, you will receive this normally after the switch is complete.

Thanks for responding.
It's a £50 charge for the early switch.
I'm just signing up to E.ON now online - do you think it will be any sooner than six weeks - or could I call E.ON and get them to ensure it's not switched over before then?
Also, on Quidco it says the cashback is new customers only - I was with E.ON before Scot Power - would that be a problem?0 -
Hiya,
There is not a definite set timescale, this is why we say 4-6 weeks, it all depends on the meter readings being sent from one supplier to another and being verified in between.
E.ON won't be able to delay the switch, once this has been initiated.
You will be classed as a new customer as you are switching from another supplier.

Ah right, so I'm better off waiting another few weeks then I suppose - just have to hope another decent Quidco deal comes along soon...0 -

The date of switch will not be delayed. Please note that this 'Last Few Days' note is about as reliable as a sign in a remaindered-books shop. It is just a 'switch to us now' tactic. The payment usually only goes down to £62 and within weeks, at most, or within hours, quite often, it will go back up to £70. Or it will still be available at £70 at topcashback instead of quidco or vice versa. It is not worth gambling £50 for the sake of £8.
But before the new supplier contacts the existing supplier they have to wait a week or two. I can't track down whether it's seven or fourteen days.0 -
Hi Kim,
Yes, it's a 14 day cooling off period.
