I have a senseo machine and cannot fault it. Maybe you used a bad or weak blend of coffee? I use the kenko brand ones mostly and the high strength ones make a decent mug (using only 1 pod). Really nice creamy layer means that you can drink it without milk if you have to, and not really notice the lack of milk too much.
The whole point i think of these pod machines is that you dont have the "fuss" of making coffee in a cafetiere and cleaning it afterwards.

You might be right. I used the Kenco ones but it was always weak for me - maybe it wasnt sealing properly and water was getting 'around' the pods.

The best thing I'd say about the Senso is it was very convenient - for sure ;)
if i had known then what i know now

We've got a Senseo and have used it every day for over a year - we make a mug using 1 pod, small cup setting, but at the same time heat 1/2 a mug of milk in the microwave (1 min 850w, or 2 mins for 2 mugs worth of milk) makes a really nice 'latte' style coffee :)

Does the machine require any cleaning? Or is that the point in the pods??

it does need some cleaning, but it only takes a minute to do. There is a drip tray that comes out to clean, plus the pod holder and the the delivery nozzle need cleaning. It's not a big job to clean, not like the filter coffee machines can be. Most of the time I just put the parts to clean under a hot tap and only clean them properly now and again.

We got one from Amazon and we love it. It's very easy to use (9 year old nephew makes them in his house) and it's very easy to clean.
Only negative is that its not scalding hot, so if you put milk in you really do need to drink it straight away.
We have a cafetiere too but can never get the measurements correct.
When it comes to thought, some people stop at nothing.........
  • Do they do a cappuchino one?

  • My dad has one and he has to heat the milk in the cup/microwave otherwise if you allow the coffee to go straight into a cold cup it will be too cold. he has had some success with the stronger pods from lidl that were recently half price at 85p for 16 i think!

Just to add to the discussion, I have a Russell Hobbs Uno Uno coffee maker, which also uses pods, and very nice it is too! Machine is very cheap, sells on ebay for less than £20. Pods can be bought from their official site ( buzzworthy are the strongest and best), or you buy an adapter to use the multitude of flavours of pods availabe at the coffee pods sites you find when you google pods.
Agree with the good advice to pop the milk in the micrwave for 30 seconds while coffee is brewing. Uno machine also takes tea!
  • Don't forget to go through quidco for 3.5% back! I ordered one last night. I see you can get alloy more flavors abroad. Has anyone tried the tea and the capuchino ones??
