Can I Reclaim Charges After Leaving Bank?

  • Oh, I have no doubt that I'd pay more for a loan but I don't really have any choice, I can't pay off the outstanding balances right now. I was just kind of wondering if I would get a pay out on the charges quicker because of what the bank themselves say my financial situation is like? They want to deny me banking services because direct debits keep bouncing which is one of the hardship criteria isn't it? Kind of hoist them by their own petard sort of thing.

The straight forward answer to that is no. If you have no priority debt arrears then whether items are being returned or not does not necessarily mean that you are in financial hardship. You gotta remember, the bank cannot lose you your home/liberty or utilities. If the charges add up to more than the amount owed then any court claim by the bank can be defended on the basis of the charges themselves.
Borrowing to get out of debt negates financial hardship outright but in the long run you pay more.

Is it likely to be successful? and can they chase me for whats in my 'reserve' when they keep me in it with charges?

I have opened a step account with natwest and another one for OH and i to pay into for the bills to come out so no more fees. Is this likely to work?
Depends if you are in financial hardship is the basic answer.
