    OP, have you discussed this problem with ACAS? They give free information about employment rights. They mediate in employment law disputes and work closely with the tribunal system. In certain circumstances they will contact an employer on the employee's behalf. The number of your local ACAS office will be in the phone book and you will also find them online.
    I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

    Hi all

    Just got of the phone from ACAS,this is what they said
    1. They cannot extend my partners notice period without mutual agreement
    2. The alternative job offer must be made before the notice period ends with sufficient detail to enable a reasoned decision about the job to be made.
    3. Because the notice period had expired before the details about the job were given my partner was under no obligation at all to even consider the job.

    Appeal meeting scheduled for tomorrow, a couple of questions on that.

    Is it acceptable for my partner to present a written statement of appeal rather than a spoken one?

    Since my partner is no longer employed by this company do the rules about a work colleague or a union rep attending still apply?
