Returns Advice

Hi
Am new to this section, but am hoping someone may be able to give me some advice?
Have recently sold a pram on ebay. Collection only, and we met the buyers at a service station. They spent a good 20 minutes inspecting it, were happy and paid cash.
They have now contacted me and want to return the item as it is not suitable for their cars.
I did have on my listing a refunds policy, stating that if anyone was unhappy, I would give a refund.
However, as they spent so long looking at it, have taken it home, and now decided a couple of days later they no longer want it, am I obliged to take it back?
Many thanks

Hi there and welcome to the ebay board.
Assuming you are a private seller then you are not obliged to offer a refund and I would be quite firm in this instance considering the buyer had every opportunity to inspect the pram before they took it away.
You may have to be quite firm with them though, don't give them any false hope, say from the outset 'I am sorry you find this pram unsuitable for your purposes but it was sold in good faith and I can offer no refunds. However, I am happy for you to resell it on ebay and I am also happy to let you use the same photos if that assists you'. Then leave it at that.
You run the risk of a neg of course, but forget that as there is ntohing you can do about it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hi
I'm actually registered on ebay as a business seller as I sell hand made cards and drawings on there. Would that make a difference?0 -
Well you did promise to give the buyer a full refund in your listing, as well as state it was collection only; it would be rather poor to now not honour that promise.
I would ask them to return the item to you at their expense (not meeting half way at a service station as may have done to sell it). As it's a large item, they'll presumably return it in person. Then spend 20 minutes examining the item to ensure it is being returned in the exact condition it was sold. Only if it is, would I provide a refund."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
They examined it and decided to purchase it as seen, so I'd say tough!
If they paid by cash, they have no way of forcing a refund from you, but they could take it out on you with the feedback....so that's the only thing you really need to consider. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0 -

School-boy error there IMHO, even if they did pick-up and pay cash.0 -

I know, its the standard setting on my account, and I didn't think to change it for this. Could kick myself now!0 -
As a business seller then yes you need to give a refund on the safe return of the item.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Did they not meet you at a service station, in a CAR, then thier complaints are childish, as they had ample chances plus transporting the item back home to put the pram into a car boot for size.
Seems like they are conning you and maynot return the same pram.
Maybe Take a neg on this one and refuse a return.
