Electric meter stopped last summer

Does anyone know how my situation will be resolved. It appears my meter stopped recording and I only noticed when on my current bill the company have refunded me nearly £500 and reduced my monthly direct debit to £5.

I have informed them and they are having the meter replaced next week. They now want me to speak to another department to sort out how much I owe them. It will be difficult to work it out accurately as my son was living with me until last August so I would imagine my usage will have reduced since then.

They'll estimate it. Advise the supplier of any differences in your personal circumstances that could have affected consumption and allowances should be made for that :)

Edit: actually they'll probably estimate it based on your current consumption (allowing for seasonal variations), so if you think you are currently using less than you did, it might be worthwhile keeping schtumm. ;)

    unusual position to be in,

Estimate a consumption based on anything you may tell them, like you went a way for quite a few weeks didn't you, and this affected your circumstances

Good Luck, by the way when was the last actual reading by the company

The last reading with a different figure to the current one was in June last year. Since then there have been 3 readings all of the same amount although there were also estimates of higher amounts.

They can't estimate it on my current consumption until they change the meter as the current one still isn't recording anything.

They will pluck a figure out of the air (well estimate on your household size and the like), then monitor consumption for a while and revisit the issue if necessary.

At least that's what happened when my water meter stopped recording.
