Weekend in London - help

Morning,
Organised weekend in London from 24th to 26th July for Mum's 60th - staying on Mayfair and going to see Blood Brothers on the Friday night. Other than that we will be mainly shopping.

I need help with the following:

What do we wear for the theatre?
Where can we eat pre-theatre and on the Sat night?
Any ideas of what to do on the Sunday (our train's not til about 4pm)?

Thanks:p

Hope you have a great time, I can help with some of this, what you wear depends on what you feel comfortable in. I would pick a pair or smart trousers and a nice top but some people go in jeans or in ballgowns.

As for eating I am no expert on London restaurants but suffice it say there are lots of them and many in the theatre district do pre theatre dinners so have a wander and pick one that has something you fancy on the menu.

On Sunday there are markets, shops, museums etc all available, maybe have a google for what's on in London on the dates concerned and see where that leads?

That's so funny, I did exactly the same for my Mum's 50th in Feb, including taking her to see Blood Brothers!! :D

So, I can help with the theatre question. We both wore jeans and a nice top, and that was perfect. Anything goes really, but not too dressy, else you just won't be comfortable.

We didn't eat until after the theatre, found an indian in Soho, I think it was called Tiger Spice, though don't bother hunting it down. It was nice, but not the best I've ever had.

In terms of what to do, what kind of things do you like doing? We did the tourist-y things like London Eye, Tussauds, Tea at the Ritz, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Obviously there are museums etc, though not sure if there's a website with all the things to do in London....

    Have a lovely weekend!!

Thanks so much nearlyrich and suzieq, that's really helpful:T

We live in Swansea so don't really go to London, and I always find it so hard to pack for a break in this country what with our unpredictable weather!

I'm going to write a packing list this afternoon and have a look what's on in London. Thanks x

You could have a look around Covent Garden and I particularly like this French restaurant as it is very atmospheric with good quality food http://www.monplaisir.co.uk/menus.html

Sunday you could also go for a walk along the Thames or take a riverboat ride - weather permitting.

Depending on your budget, I would recommend Tuttons in covent garden which is on the square, and also Clos Maggiore http://www.toptable.com/en-gb/venue/?id=1024 which has fabulous food, its a little smarter, a la carte and drinks are more expensive but if you can get a deal then i would defo go there! It's not far from the phoenix theatre. Top table also has some reasonable deals for dinner at upmarket hotels in mayfair, but u may be more restricted due to your weekend visit.

Southbank is lovely for a stroll down the river and London views if the weather is good. Loads of museums and exhibitions, Hyde Park for a wander and picnic, shopping... whatever takes ur fancy!

If you like chinese food then China Town is great, there are restaurants for all budgets and its close to Theatre Land

just an extra thought... most of the london theatres are really old and non-air conditioned, so if its a hot day, the theatres can be really hot too - wear layers! There is so much to do in London that's free, you can see lots of sights on foot, so comfy shoes are a must! and don't forget to print off MSE vouchers for restaurants- we like tapas at La Tasca in covent garden, I think there is a voucher around for that at the mo.
    enjoy!
