Grants for child carers

Options
Does anyone know of any charities that would consider a grant for a child carer? My 15 year old daughter could really do with a laptop for her homework but I can't afford to buy one. She helps care for me (I have MS) and her two brothers (who both have ASD and ADHD/ADD) and deserves so much but I can only find grants for the actual disabled children and not for those who care for them

    Here you go

thanks but the family fund will only issue grants for a disabled child and my daughter isn't disabled herself, she cares for us. The family fund helped me with replacement furniture for my sons not that long ago for which I am very grateful :)

you could try a charity called Gentlemens Night Out
they will consider applications for individuals as well as organisations and are very easy to deal with

Hmmm, I think she would not be eligible for a one off direct payment of a carers grant from social services as she is under 16. It is a shame as she would probably get a grant(up to £300) and they often agree to laptops as social networking and support for carers is seen as a valid reason.

My lappy is years old, but I've just got through my voucher from the open university fund, for a laptop, then an additional grant for internet connection, due to receiving Income Support and starting a higher course ith them. Maybe you could start a course...they do a lot of fantastic ones! I know that is an odd option, but many people are not aware of the OU's vouchers and grants :)

Have you been in touch with the MS Society Young Carers Fund? They may be able to help. http://www.mssociety.org.uk/support_and_services/grants_ms_society_lifeline/young_carer_fund.html

Also the Family Fund might be able to help, they consider cases on their individual merits, "We give grants to low-income families that relate to the additional needs of severely disabled children and young person, which help relieve the stress of everyday life."
They may be able to help, given that your DD is also caring for children with ASD and ADHD, worth talking to them anyhow. http://www.familyfund.org.uk/page.asp?section=000100010001&pagetitle=Grants

    Good luck
