Hi All. I have been lucky enough to get an Allotment after being on the waiting list for three years and wanted to share some pictures with you all.

I took it over in July last year but did not start work on it until February this year. It had been left unworked for three years and was riddled with Couch grass. Being 51 years old (so no youngster) it was quite a daunting task. Anyway I started one little patch at a time and planted as I went along starting with Broad Beans and potatoes. LIttle by little and with lots of aches and pains I have got most of it dug over and planted.

This is the link to just a few of my pictures will post some more up when I get them sorted.

This was back in July 2008 when we first took it over. It had not been worked for three years.

This one is as it is now from the same view.

This is May 2009 just after we had the shed put up. You can see to the left 3 x courgettes that I have planted as well as if you look carefully 24 small sweetcorn plants.

This is as it looks now. They have done really well

This is taken from the front of the shed. You can see the runners have just been planted. To the left were ones I started in the Greenhouse to the left they were started from planting straight into the ground.

This is as they are now. By the side of the beans are some leeks that I planted that are also doing really well.

That looks great max. Well done.

That site looks a lot like the site where my first plot was. It's probably not though...unless you're near West Bergholt.

It looks great, you've worked really hard I can see and you've given me inspiration as I've just taken on an allotment and I'm 48 so wondering how my back will hold up!

A friend is sharing it with me, and our plot has been used until end of last year so we've something to work with. We've looked at it and planned what we want to do, but as we're both on holiday we'll make a start getting it into shape when we come back.

I was lucky enough to get it by chance, our local council has a waiting list of 70+, but this is on private land on a school site and someone I met put me in touch with the secretary who offered me one straight way.

We may be offered a greenhouse for free so fingers crossed, a friend of a friend is moving to a new home and was going to smash up the old one in the garden:eek:...
But we're novices really so will be picking people's brains and picking up lots of tips on here of course:D

Fabulous! Well done - so much hard work you've done. Even with my small patch in the back garden, I find there's always something to do.

Hope you've got a freezer large enough to save all your lovely produce!
  • Well done. It looks very productive. I decided that I was relived not to have been offered one this year. It is all I can do to keep the garden and veg plot under control . Though I am older than you and have quite bad athritis.

Hi There. Thank you for your comments. Am really pleased you have been able to get an allotment, good for you. It was really hard on joints etc, housemaids knee being one problem. All I can say to you is take one little plot at the time dig it over as well as you can. Talk to the allotmenteers around your plot for tips and help. I have found that the "old timers" have been wonderful and really supportive. Try as you clear a little plot to try and plant something cause it really helps you to stay positive. Sweed, carrot, carrot, sprout etc. My attitude has been they have two chances do or die. So far I have been lucky. Do not look at the whole plot cause then you think OMG how am I going to cope.

Just again as I said take one little plot at a time and work that. Through little acorns big oak trees grow. Let me know how you get on I would be really interested. Good Luck and Good Allotmenteering.:j
