Hello,
I've been looking at furthering my education and am keen to take up MSc in Management at Imperial College. They asking for £13,000. As i'm new to the whole 'post grad' thing i have a few questions:
1 - Does that include accomodation?
2 - As a final year undergraduate can i apply for Access to Learning Fund now and again during masters?
3 - And do i qualify for a Career Development Loan?
Thankyou for your time....please, please if you can help can you post...

Hey,
I am currently doing a MSc, thankfully mine only cost 3000!
The 13,000 will not, I assume, cover anything but course fees.
Not sure about Access to Learning...
Career Development loan - you can only borrow a maximum of £8000 so you'd have to find the rest somewhere else.
Hope that helps!0 -
What do you mean they're asking for 13,000? What does it say on the letter? I suspect that it means that you must show evidence that you have 13,000 funds available to complete the course, ie cover everything. However if it is an MBA type thing then the fees can be very expensive.0

1. As for whether it includes accomodation you will need to ask the college. At the sounds of it you are looking at doing an MBA and they can be expensive. Have you looked at doing it anywhere else in the country, they might be cheaper!
2. You can probably apply for the Access to Learning Fund afterwards, but as you will be classed as a postgraduate you might not be eligible as you shouldn't start a postgraduate course unless you have the funding to finish it.
3. You will qualify for a Career Development Loan, but it is only 8000 maintenance and I think you can also get 3000 towards fees. But you will need to start paying it one month after you finish the course so transfer them as the interest is very high.
You might be able to get funding to do one but you will need to look at companies or start with a company and see if they will allow you to do one part-time and the company pay the fees.

The Career Ddevelopment Loan is only upto £8k - including a portion of your fees if necessary. I have the whole 8k but purely for maintenance as my fees were paid by the uni.
You should also check if the department you want to apply to has any sort of funding - ask the admissions tutor for the course if you can. I did this when applying for my MSc and was told to put 'seeking funding' on my application and I got £3200 towards my fees.
It's likely the 13k you're being asked for won't include accommodation and living expenses. Travel and accommodation in London can be expensive (I come form London originally) so you'd have to find money for that as well.
Good luck

£13k is fees only payable upfront in hard cash. Yes thse places IC, LSE, Oxbridge spares no punches.
Masters aren't eligible for student loans of the same type as undergrads. You only have the career development loan, which is interest free for the duration of your study. That's relatively easy to get but only up to £8k. You'll have to find another £5k for the fees plus at least £8k for living expenses. Also it will be very difficult to do any kind of part time work whilst studying full time, so you'll probably need to borrow around £13k from your parents. Oh, and you'll need to start pay back the £8k one month after your course stops, and it starts charging commercial rates of interest.
sigh, life is hard for postgrad students.
For that price though I'd suggest LSE is better for management than IC which is more known for engineeringbad hair day...0
