Any one got any feed back on the Partner, we currently have a 98 berlingo which I love but it's a petrol engine and bits are going wrong now. We are looking to upgrade to a diesel. Would like a new HDI 1.6 desire Berlingo, but looks like out of our range. Have seen an 03 Partner 2.0 HDi for a reasonable price in a local car dealership, but know nothing about Partners and Peugots, anyone got any feed back on these or Kangoo's.
Any ideas how to get a Berlingo for a more affordable price would be good to - really like the Desire range, with all the roof boxes and tables for the kids etc , and it's got a CD player.
Thanks

Well the Partner is pretty much identical to your berlingo apart from the badges so don't worry too much about that.
Where have you tried for a price? Your best bet is speaking to a few brokers and seeing what they would do you a new one for - you may be pleasantly suprised!

I've had a Berlingo for 4 years now. Mine is a 1.9D and I will eventually upgrade too. The reason Berlingos are more common than Partners is simply that they are usually cheaper due to Citroen's offers. They are otherwise identical, all made at the same factory in Vigo, Northern Spain. I now know several Berlingo owners, and without exception they (and I) are all delighted with them. I have driven a Kangoo, and although they are OK, they really aren't in the same league.
Father-in-law has a 2.0Hdi and is delighted with it. It is more economical than the older diesel, and quicker too. My advice on buying is to do what I did with mine. I bought an ex-demo from a main dealer at a very good saving. All dealers had demos, and I rang round the ones within about 40 miles till I found the model and colour I wanted.
The brokers are also likely to offer a good deal. There are some deals on new ones on the Auto Trader website too, just do a search on there. Good luck, keep us posted!0 -
Thanks for the quick replies, have tried all of the links mentioned and got various prices, best was from Autoebid.com at nearly 2k cheaper than list price.
My only problem is we really need to PX our berlingo, it's been "well loved" and definately wouldn't sell privately for anything worth having.
So am wondering can I take the quotes off the internet to a local dealership and ask them to match and Px current car or is that being too cheeky. Never done this before, never bought a new car and usually just pay what they ask (before I became an MSEr). Now with the help of the boards, I'm shopping around, just need the courage and know how to go into one of these places and tell them what I want. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you REALLY need the diesel option - yes it is a 'better' engine & improved fuel consumption, but dearer up front costs!!
The Kango is better than it started out, but still doesn't match the other choices, you mention.
Have you actually had a proper chat with your dealers - getting their ACTUAL selling price, for new???? & not just going by advertised amounts - things really are cheaper once you haggle a bit - once they know you're genuine, you may be surprised!!
& rather than dealer, think of auction - there are always plenty of the Pug/Cit (mostly petrol) in Motability sections of British Car Auctionsjust a few months - 3years old, one owner & well maintained, too.
If you don't know what I'm on about regarding Motability, ask again & I'll let you know more.
In the meantime clik over to http://www.honestjohn.co.uk clik The Backroom - Discussion & ask there. Also clik his Car By Car Breakdown, for all thats good AND bad on AVERY car!!
& if you do go 'used', check the service history carefully, as the 2.0 hdi has a loooooooooooooooooong service interval & relies on a quality oil being used. You might need to be a bit optimistic to not change oil at least 5000 miles in a diesel.
But thats for another topic!!

We recently bought a C2 for MrsSmartprice and found that it is certainly worth shopping around among all local (and even not-so-local) Citroen dealers. They will all try to undercut each other, and you know when you have the best price when they stop doing so! It may also help if you are flexible on model/colour, as they may have one in stock they want to shift. That's how we eventually got a superb deal on a C2.
As the previous poster suggested, talk to them, let them know you're serious, and that you will buy from whoever comes up with the right deal. If you don't ask, you don't get!! :rotfl:
As for the diesel option, you will find that the vast majority sold are diesels. So they are often easier to find.0 -
Well we've done it. We did lots of reasearch on the net using the sites mentioned above. Took all the figures, plus what car's guide to px and target prices with us, and got an 06 Citroen Berlingo 1.6hdi 75bhp Desire including px of our 98 berlingo for 9K :T which is a saving of £2510, and we've got it on 0% finance for 2 years. So we are very happy. Thanks for all your help.0
