Would we be entitled to any help?

Would we be entitled to any help?

My husband of 3 years ( been together 16 years) has just left me.
We have 2 DS 11 and 2 years.
I do not work and had only done part time work for a couple of years before DS2.

My husband earns approx £980 after deductions.
We get CTC £400 ish every 4 weeks plus £120 ish CB.

That is our total income.

We mortgage our home 55k (house worth 150K ish.) our mortgage is really quite small £280 ish plus life insurances and house insurance total prob £400.

He "left" me on Friday but all his stuff is in the house still as he is kipping at his brothers.

He wants to give me the absolute minimum.

Are you sure that it is really over?

    Can you not arrange mediation/counselling?

You would be entitled to IS, but I see you are an Avon lady so if you do over 16 hours you would not be entitled to IS but instead WTC. Income also affects the amount of IS you get, there is a £20 disregard but then it is reduced £1 for every £1 you earn. Also if you have savings over £6000 then it would affect your IS entitlement.

If you get IS you would get help with the mortgage after 13 weeks but this is with the interest only and your DH should still be paying his share of it.

You will get CTB and CTC.

Your husband should be paying you about 15% of his wage for maintainance but if you are getting IS you would only be allowed to keep £20 of it each week.

You need to consider whether you would be better off claiming either IS or WTC (you can keep all of the maintainance with this but get no help with the mortgage).

Try www.entitledto.co.uk for a rough guide, good luck!!

If you can find a job of 16 hours or more, you will probably (depending on income) receive WTC, CTC, help with childcare costs, child benefit, and possibly some help with council tax. You would keep all child maintenance and possibly exemption from NHS charges. As the only adult in the house, you will be entitled to 25% off your council tax.

If you don't work, you can apply for income support, CTC, child benefit (as now). You would only keep the first £20 of your child maintenance until April (I think it is), after which you can keep all of it. You would not pay council tax and could receive help with your interest payments after 13 weeks.

The interest rate is set by them and is around 6% I believe (they won't pay above this) and I believe they will only pay half because they only take your share of the house into consideration.

All in all, you'd more than likely be better of if you can find a job.

He should support his children - don't allow him to shirk his responsibilities! As a guide, the CS say he should pay £45 per week, but this is reduced if he has them one night a week or more.

    Hi all,

no chance of a reconcillation......going with your cousins wife while the two families were on holiday together.

The Avon is going to be knocked on the head as I only do 3-5 hours a week and profit is only £50-70 every 3 weeks.

Getting a job would be difficult as I have no family to sit and (ex)Husband works very long/irregular hours.

I know my income from Avon wolud be taken into account.....but I dont pay tax or NI.

I am off to the job centre in the morning to see whats what.

    Thanks all

Childcare? Tax credit may be able to help financially with this, and some companies offer "salary sacrifice" for childcare. I am on my own with two little ones, no family nearby and no contact with their father. I use a childminder to enable me to work full time. The 11 year old I imagine would be in school for most of the day - does he go round to friends' houses after school or partake in extra curricular activities? If not childcare would be minimal for him and places for under 3's are usually reasonable.
