You can get a full-authorisation account (like Electron), but even that is no guarantee of not going into an overdraft facility or incurring charges.
like Lee said. The only way to ensure you never have an overdraft nor any of the associated charges is to manage your account correctly, know exactly what is in there and what is due out to ensure you are always in the black.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -
Angel, speak to Barclays tomorrow in the branch and simple ask about the whether the reserve has been taken off or write to them for written confirmation.
When was the cheque paid into the account, is that not showing on the account as part of the account balance?0 -
You say you paid a cheque in for £740 and you're waiting it to clear?
The majority of Barclays' accounts have what's called an Instant Access Feature on them, meaning that cheques under a total of £1000 can be drawn against as soon as they are paid in. We treat the cheque as being cleared straight away and therefore you can withdraw money, etc straight away.
As I said, not everyone has this feature, it is subject to status - this is why it is not included on your available funds balance at ATMs, Online Banking and the Telephone Banking Self Service.
Even if you didn't have that feature, you wouldn't be charged a Reserve Usage Fee because this is determined by what your statement balance is (which includes cheques), rather than available funds balance.
The £8 Guaranteed Transaction Fee mentioned applies when a guaranteed cheque takes you overdrawn (when you don't have an overdraft or reserve), or over your overdraft limit (if you don't have a reserve) or over your reserve limit. This is the same for small card transactions under a shop's floor limit.0 -
You could ask Barclays to explain how the fees on your account were calculated. There is a slim chance they will waive the fees as a gesture of goodwill, but if you start off by calling them liars then you will have no chance."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The Personal Reserve has most likely been removed.
It is still possible to go overdrawn without the PR.
That £10 cash you drew as a test if it took you even further overdrawn will probably have cost you £8 in charges.
The fees are explained on the Barclays web site
If you don't have a Personal Reserve or overdraft then it is only possible to go overdrawn if a guaranteed transaction takes you overdrawn - a guaranteed cheque or a debit card transaction below the shop's floor limit. You can not withdraw money from an ATM if you don't have the money in the account.
Plus, if you don't have a Personal Reserve or overdraft then you normally have a £15 buffer, unless your account has a bad marker on it.0
