    It is £2.

By the sounds of other replies, it seems as though you have no credit history and you are very unlikely to get a good credit card. I recommend Capital One Classic Card

That's not good news. I cannot believe banks are being like that. I suspect in the near future 0% intro offers will either not exisit or are cut short. E.g. 3 months.

Santander just said 'we use a number of sources to get an understanding of your current financial situation'. They said I didn't meet their minimum requirements.

Wouldn't take it personally, I've had the same thing applying for their Abbey Zero card in the past. Now going down the 6% current account route with them as an opener for future cards.

Know others with "excellent" credit ratings who've had the same - though one of them did reclaim a big amount of PPI from them so whether that's affected their "internal scoring" who knows.

Very interesting Meggsy! While disappointing to read, I'm somewhat reassured that I've not been singled out as such. It would certainly explain a lot!

Thanks for the responses everyone. Happy to stick with my present CC for the time being - just have to pay 3% on each foreign currency transaction. That's life I guess.
  • I have also just been turned down for this card (first time ever declined) despite having a £50,000 + income, excellent credit history.

I suspect Santander is doing a naughty with turning down those with good histories, as mentioned in the Times article.

    Hi -

Like other posters I wouldn't worry too much about being turned down, it could even be because your past behaviour has been so good, there's just less in it for the credit card companies!

Martin's article was really helpful for me for this and so was one on a site called Choosemoney called something like - maximise your chances of getting a credit card.

Hope this helps - good luck!
