I have just had a similar problem with firefox 3.5.1. My spell checker was not working when filling out web forms etc. Although I do not use the google type spell checker.

I cured my problem by adding a british english dictionary firefox add on

You should be aware that some of those dictionaries carry an American bias in the words they select ie: colour\color so if you use them, be aware that they may select words as incorrectly spelt in the USA as they're correctly spelt for the UK.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

This add on is a British English version and does not appear to have any American spelling bias.

Just to add, if it does underline a word that is correctly spelled, right click then 'add to dictionary'.
    Move along, nothing to see.
  • Thanks very much for the replies !! it does seem to have sorted it out
