Help with getting from Norwich to Liverpool please?

Hiya,

Me and my boyfriend need to travel from Norwich to Liverpool on 7/08/09 and back again on 9/08/09 can anyone find any cheap rail fair. Ive tried all sorts of options and evrything is looking fairly expensive. I have a YP railcard and I can buy him one if it makes it cheaper for this and in the long run as we use trains a fair bit.

Also I am willing to drive if I HAVE to but would rather not. Im not to sure what driving to Liverpool would be like so any advice there would be great.

Many thanks in advance
Caroline

Hi Caroline, what fares have you found so far?

"Fairly expensive" is a bit subjective. To one person £10 may be fairly expensive, and to another £110 might be cheap.

Can be done for £33.00 each person each way without a railcard.
Can be done for £21.80 each person each way with a railcard.

    Oh, good idea Quentin.
These tickets are Advance Singles, so you must travel on the booked trains.
Any train company will sell them, I tend to use the NXEC website, simply because I like the layout.

OK, but which trains are available to buy Advance singles on the days she wants to travel? I already had looked and cannot see them.

The best I found was £67.30 (off peak return) each with a railcard

Thank you. I cant seem to find a fair that cheap without changing about 4/5 times though. I dont mind changing a few times but just need to know the best options.

Quentin, I do not know which search engine you are using, but on the NXEC site (link above) I can clearly see that on the 07:57 departure from Norwich direct to Liverpool arriving at 13:31 (journey time = 5:34hrs) an Advance Single is available with a Y/P Railcard for £21.80.

Click 'show slower routes' (down left hand side, towards the bottom), and put a tick in all the three options presented, then click the 'update' button.
You should now see that the same £21.80 fare is available on the 12:52 departure from Liverpool arriving at Norwich at 18:29.

Please be aware that these fares can vanish at any time.

These are direct trains... no changes required.

Yes I now found them, thanks to KeithP.

They come up on NXEC, not the trainline.

All railcard single fares with no changes.

    Depart Norwich 07:57 arr Liverpool 13:31 £21.80

    Depart Liverpool 14:52 arr Norwich 20:28 £21.80

    No.
    The 14:52 departure is £26.40.
Its the 12:52 that is £21.80.

Quentin, are you travelling on the same trains as Caroline?
