Tiscali- Nightmare provider

ANYONE considering Tiscali - DON'T DO IT!!!! I have been without broadband for well over a month now. The people manning their 'customer care' lines are totally inept. I have been trying to sort out a payment problem for six months now - they seem incapable of taking credit card/debit card payments. Each time I phone up - running to dozens and dozens of times on their 0870 lines, they tell me it is all sorted, well I believed it the first time! If you want inept customer services, being lied to, never being able to speak to the same person twice in at least 4 different call centres, technical call centre in India where I could not even be understood - Tiscali is the one. There are much better reliable providers out there - pay the extra if necessary. I am moving to Nildram and you can bet I will let you know how I get on with them,

  • I was with them for calls on my BT line. BT had a better offer so I went back and cancelledmy DD to Tiscali.

They kept billing me £8.99 a month for a service that gave me free 01 and 02 calls only.

Every month I rang their 0870 customer services and asked whether the call logs showed whether I had called last month.

They always said yes. I then pointed out that if I still had a service with them then the bill should at the very least be £8.99 plus the cost of the call to the helpdesk.

Eventually the penny dropped with them...

(I think you have posted your thread in the wrong forum btw...)

I was with Tiscali for about a year, on a dial up service. They regularly missed taking payments, sometimes for 3 or 4 months at a time despite me pointing it out to them. Then they would take 3 or 4 months payment all at once. It made me leave them to be honest although I found the actual internet service as good as any other. I am currently with Tesco and have no complaints.

Tiscali are really awful but I've been with them for 2 years, as the broadband service is fairly cheap with no fixed usage limits (apart from betweeen 6 and 11PM)

However, their billing is really bad, first six months of contract we were not billed at all and it went down as "Failed Payments" on the bill you can view online, because they had set a direct debit up but were not taking any money through it.

Now that I've been classed as a "heavy user" my download speeds are pretty sub-par, 60-80k outside of peak times < 10k during them (although HTTP is full speed at all times.)

Once something better comes along I am definately going to request my MAC.

I have been with tiscali for that long I forget and they have been fab, I have only had to phine tech a few times and the problem has been sorted out there and then, never had a missed payment. The only thing was when they brought out the £14.99 option I switched to that, I only realised last friday that they were still charging me £15.99 so I emailed them that night, got an email on tuesday saying that they have reduced my bill too £10 a month for 3 months as a good will gesture and low and behold the money they owed me has been debited to my account. All from one email.

    Very happy cutomer here.

nother satisfied customer here....signed up for 2meg broadband and unlimited landline calls for £19.99 few months back. Billing fine, couple of calls to customer services fine. A very good price all in. They have now seperated the unlimited phone calls and broadband deal into 1 meg and 2 meg with the 2 meg costing a few pounds more. Rang them and they said they would honour the 2 meg for £19.99 for me for the year. Just got my bill and it is spot on.

I can safely say I have never been with Tiscali although my bird has their 2meg service. I am on Prodigy's 2meg service at my dads and we both use the same Netgear router. I am convinced Tiscali is slower as its sluggish at times. I first thought her router was faulty but have tried a couple and its been the same.

Anyway thats what put me off going with them. And their stupid fair usage policy!!!

Also in my house I've just signed up to Pipex broadband, which came free with their phone service which gives you 500 mins free each month to 01 and 02! I reckon thats not bad at £14.99 with the broadband (upto 2meg). Best offer Ive seen for a while although probably not ideal for heavy internet users as there is a download limit.

Only downer from my point of view is I could only receive 512mb cos I'm so far from the exchange :( sucks!

Anyway thats my 2 minutes worth.
