Caxton FX Global Travellar Card - FX Markup

Hi,

I have a newly acquired Caxton FX Global Traveller card, and I am about to use it in Poland next week. Does anyone know if the 2.5% FX Mark up fee that applies to transactions in a different currency to the card, applies to ATM withdrawals?

It is probably very obvious, but I have got myself confused.

Many Thanks,

Mike

yes there is a 2.5% markup on all transactions with that card, there is just no charge for using the atm

eg. withdrawing £100 (Or local equivilant) will cost £102.50 at the atm
spending £100 in a shop "" "" will cost the same.

the global card is a bit pointless really, you get the same deal with the euro card only its free to use anywhere the euro is, ie. no 2.5% and then you pay the 2.5% if your outside the eurozone.
  • I work for Caxton FX and I would like to clarify...

The Global Traveller card is for use outside the Euro and Dollar Zones, the 2.5% mark up is the exchange rate we offer which is far better than banks or bureaux des changes. for example airport currency mark ups are around 6% and many will chage commission on top of that too.

We do not levy any other charges whatsoever on top of this. If you are travelling in the Euro Zone you would be better to get a Euro Card.

The Global Traveller is designed for people who travel to a mulitude of destinations and outside Europe and the USA, having one card is far easier to manage!

the BBC did a peice over the weekend, which explains further...

    Hope this helps

    Bit late for you perhaps,
But the FairFx card (if I am reading the conditions correctly) gives you the wholesale rate once you have loaded it if you use it in a different currency.
OK they charge a ATM fee (which is quite reasonable) but compare the rates
between FairFx and Caxton, just looked and in euro's Caxton was 1.14 FairFx was 1.15

Everyone has to make a profit but they don't all do it in the same way.
  • I have been reading this post and others and just want to set my head straight. I travel to the US and Dubai a couple of times a year, and had been looking at getting one of these Global Traveller cards. Is tommycolla basically stating that as this card is in Sterling, every transaction faces a 2.5% charge? Would I be better getting a separate Dollar card for the US trips?

I think if you get a $$ card the 2.5% is charged (in the exchange rate) when the card is loaded here rather than when it is used in the US. So at least in theory it makes no difference.

Still one of the better rates available
