Hi, I wonder if anyone can give any help or suggestions as to funding for Post graduate Courses, In Particular the LPC Course. So far i can only see NATWEST and HSBC that offer 'professional training loans.' I wonder if anyone can suggest anywhere else.
I know there is a Career Developement Loan but at £8000 it's not really enough, can this be taken out with another loan? I never usually qualify for grants financial help etc as my parents earn too much, but i can't live off them next year to the tune of £15K.
I think i'll need about 15K next year as i'll be away from home, etc. If anyone can suggest other 'career/ professional training loans' i would really appreciate it.
Thanks
MATT

Hey Matt,
There are a few websites I've found really useful for funding and things.
This has loads of links to searches for charity grants etc etc.
You may also be entitled to some Local Authority funding, however, finding the information out about this can be like getting blood out of a stone .
This sheet is helpful too.0 -
thanks for that Trinaodee
I am currently on the GDL and am going onto the LPC in Sept. I was considering a Career Dev Loan for my fees. I believe they are interest free until you start earning??
Anyway - your post was very useful.0 -
Career Developement loans i believe cover upto 80% of your course fees. However they don't cover living expenses. Can Career developement loans be taken out with professional trainee loans? (if nothing else it will save some interest).
I don't think i'd qualify for any charitable grant or help. I don't seem to fit the criteria. Any other suggestions for finding £15,000. (i've no objects to taking a loan out for this, i just want the best terms etc)Debts (Apr 09):

A few of my fellow students on the GDL have taken Professional Studies Loans. The course fees for this year were £5k so a few of them borrowed a few more grand to cover living expenses. You could try that - but I'm not sure of the interest terms or maximum borrowing etc.
I am fortunate as I worked for few years between by degree and GDL. But i will still need to work over the summer and during next year.
Hope you can get the money you need.0 -
Thanks davelewis.
Before finding this site, normally i would have just taken the money with my present bank and not bothered looking round. Now, i'm looking round, trying to save a bit of cash even if it is only on interest.
Good Luck with your studies.

I had to fund about 10k for my MSc course ... fees + living costs.
I got a studentship reducing my fees by 2.5k
Access to Learning fund which all unis have ... another 1.5k
and the rest I got from opening 3 x student bank accounts ... students in education past 4 years tend to get an average of 2k 0% overdraft per account.
While I understand you can't raise all the funds from 0% overdrafts you can try for at least 6-8k with multiple current accounts.0 -
Natwest also does loans specifically for the GDL and LPC with an 18 month repayment holiday. These are only avaliable though if you're studying at College of Law or BPP.0

Hi, i don't want to sound Matter of Fact, but Natwest Loans aren't just for college of Law or BPP, they will loan to students at other institutions.
The college of law loand mean they will pay the tution fees directly to the college. I didn't want any one put off from applying as NATWEST offers slightly better terms than HSBC, (i think, from studying their offers, haven't been to get quotes yet). Natwest you can take installments which means less interest, it may not be much but it is something.
