Dry Lining Shower Wall

I need to dry line one wall of a shower in an upstairs bathroom to hide the pipework.

The area to cover is 1800 mm x 600 mm.

I have 50 x 25 mm batons for the wall but can anyone recommend a sheeting to cover them.

It will be tiled afterwards.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

    Just finished doing mine.
Water resistant plasterboard and then a coating of Bal Primer to make sure the tiles stick.

use standard 12.5mm board then tank with membrane

No plasterboard on its own is water resistant

Use a tankng membrane such as homelux or a paint on tanking kit such as Bal Wp1 kit

You could try "Hardibacker board".Its made for shower walls etc.
My local timber merchants sell it, know a few guys that have used it and they like it.

I haven't used it personally TBH.

Your not a tradesman are you?

Grout and adhesives are not waterproof and will absorb some water

Tanking membrane even when bought at retail price costs approx £50 per bathroom

Hardibacker board is not water resistant it will just not breakdown when wet unlike plasterboard

I bought a book to read up on a small tiling job I had planned, for boarding out it recommended cement backer board because it remains stable if it gets wet and is rot proof - Wickes sell a board marketed as Aqua Panel which I think is the same thing.

We had a discussion, which ended up with differing opinions, with our builders when we renovated a house recently.

They used normal plasterboard in the shower area, we asked if it should be special plasterboard but they said no. We said we wanted it tanked. They said not needed as it was to be tiled. We still wanted it tanked. Purchased Bal WP1 tanking kit, they used it (probably muttering about us being over cautious but we were happy) and then it was tiled. I think the adhesive and grout used was for shower areas but I don't know the make.

Decided to go for the Aqua Panel from Wicks. Just put it up today, so will see how it goes.

Thanks to all for their thoughts and opinions.
