Wedding Venue Deposit

Hi,
Just wondered if anyone could give me some advice please? We booked a wedding venue, paid an £800.00 deposit (by cheque) and now want to cancel it.
We didn't sign an agreement form/terms or conditions, I just have a letter from the owner acknowledging receipt of our deposit.
Any chance of getting it back do you think??
Many thanks

How long ago did you book it ?
They may try and keep the whole amount - whether it is reaonable for them to do that may depend on how much work they have done to prepare for your wedding , if they have paid out for any supplies, and the chances of them being able to rebook the date to someone else.
How much time is there to the wedding date ?0 -
Well to be honest, you shouldn't have paid any deposit without knowing what the terms were.
I think it would depend when your wedding was, if you're giving them a lot of notice, they may give it all back but if it's quite soon they may not. All you can do is ask. Think happy & you'll be happy

As it was a deposit and you breaking the contract, not them not so sure you will0

Yes, you are entitled to a return of the deposit unless they can prove that a) it was not refundable; and b) that it represents a genuine pre-estimate of their losses suffered by you not continuing with the contract.
If the venue would have plenty of opportunity to resell the date and can do so then they have suffered no loss and should refund it.0
