upvc french doors not locking

i only ever use one of the doors and recently the lock won't turn when the doors shut but, if i open the door the lock turns fine.

i've checked the static door to check for obstruction etc but everything seems fine. The only thing i can think of is one of the doors may have 'dropped' slightly but they look ok to me.

any ideas?

This happens to my porch door in very hot sun as it sort of warps it temporarily. It gets the sun later in the day.

Don't know what the answer is, but mine will normally lock in the evening when it's cooler.

Definatly sounds like it needs a bit of adjustment.
If you are lucky you can just do it on the hinges, if not, it's a case of taking out the beads and putting packers in between the glass and frame in the right places.

From the outside, have a look at the tops - are they level or has one dropped?
Also check the gap between them when they are shut, does it look even all the way down?

Yeah definatly needs realigning sooner rather than later as if you leave it and force it you will damage the door mech.

When i had my doors fitted i saw the guy do this:

    1. Where the lock opening is mark the top and bottom with a felt pen and transfer this mark to the inside and outside of the door. Use a ruler of 90 degree angle to be accurate.

    2. Open your hinged door and fully extend the lock (lock it), now do the same again, mark both sides of the protruding piece.

    3. Now keep door locked and push it up against the other and you should be able to easily see if the lock mechanism is in line with its socket.

    4. With the door lock extended you can also measure from the front or back of the frame how far the protruding bit is, say approx 10mm, then you can measure the same distance on the lock hole side and see if its over enough.

This is only a rough guide but its pretty easy to do, but remember not to use permanent marker.
